Whether you're an experienced professional, a high-school graduate, or backpacking adventurer - we want to hear from you! 


At Human Wave you’ll get the opportunity to use your skills and experience to help improve the lives of some of West Bengal’s poorest communities. You'll do something very different. You'll bring inspiration, energy and vital practical skills to help bring better education, healthcare, economic opportunities and community infrastructure to the communities we work in.


Ways to make an impact:


  • Teaching - Assist and organize classes at one of our schools in our project areas. Be it cognitive and social skills, basic literacy and numeracy or social, art and cultural skills

  • Run excursions - Plan, organize and run one of our many excursions with the children

  • Programme work - Get involved in our education, health, women’s empowerment & microfinance or community infrastructure programmes. Be it with design, implementation, finance or evaluation

  • Start your own programme - Do you have a great idea for a new programme or project? If so we’d love to hear about it

  • Management and Administration - Get involved in helping run our organization. Be it with strategy, finance, human resources or fund-raising ideas.


What we offer:


  • Accommodation - Live in our large family home. We can provide both individual and shared rooms

  • Food - Enjoy 3 delicious cultural meals a day prepared by Ratna and Apuna

  • Orientation & Training - We provide a full orientation to Human Wave with visits to all our programmes before you start. We also provide specific programme training when needed

  • Bengali Lessons - Our local staff happily provide language lessons for those looking to get more out of their volunteer experience

  • Local Culture - We want you to be part of our family, so join us eating out, at the local market or at a friend’s wedding

  • Time and Costs - Volunteer with us  from a week or up to a year! It’s up to you.   50% of the fees covers  your accommodation and food, while the rest goes towards supporting our programmes
